Lexi Catt’s Meowmoirs-Tales of Heroic Scientists
Alexander Catt II, known as Lexi, was born in Luxor, Egypt, during the reign of Ramses II. The son of the adventurer Alexander Catt and a sleek black cat named Ebony, Lexi inherited his mother’s dark coat, with a white muzzle, white paws, and a small white tip on his expressive tail. Now living his ninth life, Lexi has taken up his true calling: writing his meowmoirs, following in his father’s pawsteps. Drawn to trouble and warned by a telltale twitch of his tail, Lexi has wisely spent centuries living alongside scientists and doctors – afterall, it’s always good to have a physician in the house.

Lexi and Marie Curie
Saving Lives
in World War I
By Marian Keen
Lexi and Marie Curie introduces readers to the amazing story of scientist Marie Curie, whose isolation of radium, among other discoveries, led to her being awarded the Nobel Prize in both Physics and Chemistry. Shut out of much of the formal scientific academy, Marie forges her own path, one that paves the way for her daughters and for generations of girls and women whose curiosity is sparked by ‘STEM’ – science, technology, engineering and math.
The writing is accessible and the descriptions of war are honest but age-appropriate – written for intermediate grade students.
“This book serves as a useful reminder to both girls and boys that women have been making history in all fields of endeavor for a very long time, and that our pioneers ought not to be forgotten. Lexi and Marie Curie will encourage girls, in particular, not to take “no” for an answer and to rely on their wits and ingenuity to find a solution to even the most difficult problems that life throws their way.”~Janine, Associate Professor, UBC

As word of Dr. Joe’s life-saving work spreads, he becomes the victim of ridicule; but his perseverance and integrity win over the medical community.
“What captures me in each of Marian’s stories in the Lexi collection is how playful they are, while holding onto accurate details. The books are clearly well-researched, and they teach so much. The stories bring the history to life in a way that children can connect to, sparking their curiosity and natural sense for fun.“~Laura, Teacher Librarian

The story is set during the reign of Ramses II, and accurately portrays the medical practices of this advanced civilization. Lexi accompanies young Imhotep to Deir el-Medina, where they rid the city of vermin and disease; save workers from a collapsed tomb; and rescue a mysterious young man who asks for forgiveness and then disappears! When Pharoah Ramses the Great is informed, he demands an account, and they make their journey down the Nile.
“Marian Keen has done it again… From his antics as a spunky kitten to his journey down the Nile with Hotep and Genie to meet Pharaoh Ramses II, readers will enjoy every fun-filled page. The illustrations bring ancient Egypt to life, and the “Pawscript” at the back of the book is very helpful and informative for middle-grade readers who are experiencing new vocabulary and learning about the lifestyles and events of ancient Egypt.“~Samantha, Special Educator
